HOLSVATN - The Peaceful Lake

HOLSVATN is a lake in the Vesturland region of Iceland.

It is hard to imagine that in this peaceful place, there was once an outburst of lava rising from the earth. Today, the lava that was so belligerent has been replaced by water whose surface is swept by winds that, in a very flat geography, can wander as they please.

Here time and distance are once again completely turned upside down. What seems like an eternity has been a mere second and what seems like a hill nearby is in fact a huge mountain in the distance.

Note : This soundscape was made from loops of a shorter recording. A minimum of post-production processing was applied in order to retranscribe the natural atmosphere of the place.
