FAGRADALSFJALL - A Delicate Sound Of Thunder
Fagradalsfjall is a tuya volcano formed in the Last Glacial Period on the Reykjanes Peninsula, around 40 kilometres (25 mi) from Reykjavík.
Few words can convey what it feels like to be in front of an erupting volcano. And to my great misfortune, none of my recordings have been able to reproduce the intensity of sound that seizes us each time it decides to throw its lava into the air. To be confronted with nature unleashed from its bowels is like taking a leap back in time, a journey to a time when the earth did not yet know man.
Note: this soundscape is a montage of several attempts to record the eruption as none of them were individually satisfying. It has been constructed in such a way as to transcribe as best as possible the sound atmosphere perceived on site.
